About Us

The Arts Society Wantage was formed in 1985 and is a member of an association of societies centrally coordinated by a leading arts charity  – ‘The Arts Society‘.
More information on that organisation can be found HERE.

Lectures – The Society meets monthly, but not in August or December, for lectures on an eclectic range of  topics from English ceramics  to Australian aboriginal art via French chateaux.  The talks are given by highly qualified lecturers, registered with The Arts Society central office and who are experts in their chosen field.
This year’s programme of lectures can be found on the  Lectures webpage

Visits and guided tours to museums, galleries and other places of artistic, architectural  and  historic interest are organised by the Society.
The current programme can be found on the Visits webpage.

Study Days are arranged when a subject is examined in greater depth led by an expert in the field and an excellent lunch is provided. Subjects have ranged from ‘Shakespeare through artist’s eyes’ to a hands-on introduction to watercolour painting.
The current programme can be found on the Study Days webpage.

Church Records – A trained group of volunteers made detailed studies and inventories of the contents of churches enabling their rich artistic heritage to be recognised and preserved.
More details can be found on the Church Recording webpage.

Library Conservation work is carried out by a trained group of volunteers whereby books are assessed, cleaned and repairs are carried out and recorded.
More details can be found on the Library Conservation webpage.

The Young Arts programme aims to inspire young people with a lasting enthusiasm for the Arts, and the Wantage Society provides a grant each year towards an appropriate project.
More details can be found on the Young Arts webpage.
